CREATIVE PROCESS (2014 Q4)

Creative Process was a Foundation class that I attended in the Emily Carr University of Art+Design (ECUAD) was a that focused on developing the students' ability to formulate the basis of their art and its process. While each class performed different tasks to do this, the class I attended did so by asking the student "What is _____?" and seeing how they formulated a piece from it.

What is "Moon"? I (Sept. 2014)

[CREA] Moon I (6).jpg

Moon was our first concept to observe and portray. At first, most of use were still pretty stuck in the general idea of art being a visual image and I was no different. I pretty much just wracked my brain for what was related to the moon. I mostly tied it to my semi-nocturnal nature, showing how much of my life was really spent at night after wandering around like an information-soaking zombie during the day.

In the end, I still liked this piece, but I felt unsatisfied at the time since it was still pretty rudimentary in terms of creation.

What is "Moon"? II (Oct.2014)

[Image] Second Moon 002.jpg

Moon was something we took a look at twice, mostly cause everyone was still very much rooted in the general idea of 'Art' that we've gotten used to, so instead of just making a drawing like the last time, I made a 3d setpiece with a silver-painted cardboard cutout, a flashlight, and the wall based on the maternal concepts tied to 'Moon.'

What is "Dragon"? (Oct. 2014)

[CREA] Dragon (4).jpg

Dragon was a piece where I felt more of a motivation to create a narrative as the other students started going crazy with how much more experimental they were getting. I decided to host a draconic trial scenario where each student was given a pamphlet and were to decide the fate of said dragon in a dark room.

Territory Project (Nov. 2014)

[Image] Personal Location Documentation

The Territory Project was a more unique situation than the other projects we had in class. We were tasked with a random location (chosen by pinning an area of the map blindfolded) and situating an item there. On a later day, we were then supposed to go to another person's location at random to admire and critique their work (though for some, the work had disappeared at that point, it seemed.) My work was made up of a broken umbrella alongside some notes thanking my location for all that it had endured for those who had trod upon it.

DESIGN CORE (2015 Q1)

Design was a very straightforward course, based on the facet of building up the students' ability to create marketable and well-crafted materials, ranging from styles and formats to the very nature of building the product itself. All contents and write-ups on the processes of each work tied to the class are stored in the Process Book PDF located on the right.

FOUNDATION ANIMATION (2015 Q1)

These are... the animations I made when I was starting out. Some of them I like, some of them I curse my past self to the very DEPTHS of higgedy-heck because of how cringe-inducing or astoundingly edgy they were.

Nevertheless, they show me how much I've improved over the years, and even give me a hint of nostalgia from time to time. Just... don't bring up the incredulously edgy ones to me... Please...

Index Card Animation [Curious Cat] (Jan.2015)

Ah yes, my first step into animation. This one I liked. We were tasked with working on a stream of animation that could loop back into itself while flowing into the animation of the other students. It was super fun and pretty exciting getting to see my work actually move for the first time.

Group Collab [Bubblehead Bob] (Jan.2015)

This was a nice one, despite my protests of hating my old work. I liked working with my friends on this and it was super fun getting my feet wet in animation. The editing, the sound effects, the little narrative it had. All in all, a great piece of work that I made.

Phenakistoscope [Cat-choo!] (Feb.2015)

This one was pretty fun, too. I'd never seen a phenakistoscope before and making a simple looping animation like  this, even with a short frame count limit, was really engaging. I always liked cats and cute stuff so I made a loop of a sneezing cat.

Cut-Out Walk Cycle [Lost Kitten] (Feb.2015)

A walk cycle animation using cut-outs. Not too bad, especially as a first try from a first-timer in animation. I'd even say it's a good effort, all things considered. I've gotten better over the years, but it still makes me groan a little seeing how... not good I was all those years ago. It didn't help that I was never really that good with the craft part of arts & crafts.

Gravity & Weight-based [Trash Crash] (Feb.2015)

The absolute mediocrity of this piece, based on how much I've gotten better over the years, give me physical pain not unlike the character falling over. I definitely had some fun making it and showing it off at the time. But, like many things, my past self continues to hurt me in ways unimaginable through sheer progression.

Character/Expression [Hope to Ashes] (Mar.2015)

Oh god, the edge. Oh god, the edge. Oh god, the edge.

What kind of massive idiotic edgelord makes this and uses it in class? Me. Apparently. It was supposed to be a showcase of expression and lil' ol me decided it would be FANTASTIC to do it this way. To be fair, pain and fear are definitely very visceral expressions to portray but- WHY. WHY AS A SCHOOL PROJECT?

Foundation Anijam Section (Apr.2015)

The amount of pain this memory gives me is astounding. Please. Never EVER try to do something so off the wall different in an Anijam. We were supposed to make animal animation with food and my dumb ass decided "Oh boy, I can use a LoOpHoLe to make it something about this one story I say I'll make event though I've barely worked on it five years into the future. Huurddy hurrr!" Not to mention how edgy it is. Pain.

FOUNDATION SHOW PROJECTS (2015 Q1)

The Foundation Show was a presentation for all foundation students to show off their beginning prowess and show of promise at the end of their first year. Usually students would have one, maybe two, pieces to show off.

[Final] Nomadic Feline [Increased Vibran

I made this image with an attempt to show off my ability to create characters and visually compelling scenes involving them. Unfortunately... I was 18. I didn't quite have the skill nor the knowhow as to how to do so effectively so a lot of it didn't quite go as to how I'd liked it. I kind of want to remake this one day, once I get to a level I think is good enough to truly create it.
